Answering the doing the math question

There are many different animal species that we know of now, but in the biblical times, only very basic animals where mentioned, like cows, fish, birds etc;

So there would have been less animals to fit in the ark. Plus all of the creatures living in the sea would not have need to be in the ark.

When you see a picture of the ark, a clip ark drawing you may see penguins, elephants or giraffes but how does the artist of this picture know what the animals were?
